Ocean Safety presents safety kit to Ocean Brothers for epic rowing challenge
Leading safety equipment specialists and 3Si Group company Ocean Safety are helping two brothers to be totally prepared when they row across the Atlantic Ocean in January 2018 to raise funds for the British Skin Foundation.
Ocean Safety presented the equipment to Jude Massey and Dr Greg Bailey at the Southampton Boat Show on the Ocean Brothers Stand A010 on Friday 15th September. Amongst the vital lifesaving equipment are a selection of Ocean Signal products, for whom Ocean Safety is the exclusive UK distributor, including a couple of Ocean Signal Electronic Distress Flares, three MOB1s (man overboard systems), three PLBs (personal locator beacons), and a SART. Ocean Safety are also providing one of their own Ocean Safety Ocean ISO 4-man liferafts. The total value of Ocean Safety’s support is over £2600.
Ocean Safety is proud to be supporting Jude and Greg as they prepare for the ocean crossing to raise funds for the British Skin Foundation in memory of their father.
Peter Massey, Jude's father and Greg's stepfather, passed away in August 2015 after an arduous 16 year battle with skin cancer. One year after his death the brothers decided to undertake this epic challenge in memory of him, launching a campaign to raise an incredible £100,000 for skin cancer research and to generate awareness of the disease. They are already getting close to their goal.
The trip will start in the Canaries and end in Barbados. Jude and Greg will take to the ocean completely unaccompanied, with no support vessel, no backup boat, just them in their 24ft x 5ft 9in rowing boat. The brothers will be rowing day and night, each taking two-hour shifts when they will try and get as much rest as possible before the next shift. The 3000-mile trip will take approximately 11 weeks to complete, depending upon weather conditions.
"We are proud to be the safety supplier to Ocean Brothers and have partnered with Ocean Signal to ensure that they are fully equipped with the best possible equipment on the market,” comments Frederique Gerard, Group Product and Marketing Director of 3Si Group. “We wish them the very best of luck in their venture.”
